Privacy Policy
This policy explains what OnTheGo collects in the OnTheGo Rides (rider) and OnTheGo Captain (driver) apps, why, and the choices you have. OnTheGo operates in India.
What we collect
- Account details: name, email address, password (stored hashed), phone number (if provided), gender (optional) and profile photo.
- Location: riders – the pickup and drop-off points you choose and your current location while the app is open, to set your pickup and show nearby drivers. Captains – precise location while you're online or on a ride, including when the app is in the background, to send you nearby requests and to show your live position to your rider. Location stops being collected when you go offline.
- Rides: ride requests, routes, fares, ride OTPs, cancellations, and chat messages exchanged with the other party during a trip.
- Captain verification: driving licence, Aadhaar, PAN (optional), vehicle details, RC and insurance documents.
- Support: complaints and the contact details you add to them.
- Device data: a push-notification token (captains) so we can alert you to ride requests.
How we use it
To match riders with nearby captains, show live trip progress, calculate fares, verify captains and vehicles, send ride notifications, provide support, keep the service safe and meet legal obligations. We do not use your data for advertising and we do not sell it.
Who we share it with
Riders see their captain's name, photo, vehicle and live location during a ride; captains see the rider's name and pickup/drop-off points for an active ride. We use service providers to run the service – cloud hosting for our servers, Google Maps Platform for maps, places and routes, and Firebase Cloud Messaging for notifications – who process data only on our behalf. We may disclose data when required by law.
Retention
We keep your data while your account is active. When you delete your account, your profile, contact details, photo, documents, saved places, notification tokens and login sessions are deleted, and ride and support records are kept only in anonymised form for accounting and legal purposes.
Your choices
- Edit your profile in the app.
- Deny or revoke location permission in your phone's settings (riders can still enter addresses; captains can't go online without location).
- Delete your account in the app or via this page.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and passwords are stored hashed.
Children
OnTheGo is for people aged 18 and over. We don't knowingly collect data from children.
